SwissDrones CEO Ulrich Amberg Awarded as One of 2026 Switzerland’s Digital Shapers
The Digital Shapers are driving Switzerland’s digital transformation through their ideas and initiatives. Across ten categories, the program highlights leading minds from business, technology, science, and society. They represent innovation, entrepreneurial ambition, and a strong commitment to creating real value through digital solutions. In doing so, the initiative showcases those actively shaping and defining Switzerland’s digital future.
ULRICH AMBERG, 52 CEO, SwissDrones, Zurich
Ulrich Amberg has been CEO and co-owner of SwissDrones since 2020. Prior to that, the computer science engineer and Harvard alumnus spent more than 15 years at KPMG, most recently as a Partner. His transition from consultant to entrepreneur was driven by a clear ambition: to transform industrial aviation and replace manned helicopters with autonomous systems.
Under his leadership, SwissDrones is on a strong trajectory toward global presence, with flight approvals now secured in more than 35 countries. The company’s flagship helicopter, the SDO 50 V3, supports disaster response operations in Japan, while in the United States and Australia it has already demonstrated pioneering long-range missions in 2025.
Its advantages are clear: where smaller drones struggle in challenging weather conditions, the system operates reliably over hundreds of kilometres. At the same time, it enables cost reductions of up to 70% and CO₂ savings of up to 95% compared to manned helicopters.
Driven by the ambition to set a new standard of Swiss precision, Ulrich Amberg is positioning SwissDrones—together with partners such as Chevron—as a global leader in digital infrastructure inspection.
